100 km west from the capital Vilnius is the second largest city of Lithuania – Kaunas.
Lithuania is a member of the European Union since 2004, is located in Northern Europe and is the southernmost of the three Baltic countries. Lithuania has about 3 million inhabitants, the currency is the Litas. Kaunas is the second largest city in Lithuania (after the capital, Vilnius). Well known is also the port city of Klaipeda.
About 80 percent of Lithuanians are Roman Catholic, 90 percent are Christians. Lithuania is one of the countries with the lowest crime rate in Europe.
